A Plastic Sheet Extrusion Line is a complete, synchronized plant that converts polymer resin into the precise sheet required for thermoforming. It begins with material preparation: drying hygroscopic resins like PET, and precision blending of virgin pellets, regrind, colorants, and additives. The extruder—single-screw for standard sheets or twin-screw for superior mixing and devolatilization—melts and homogenizes the polymer. The melt is filtered and pumped through a coathanger or T-die. The nascent sheet then enters the critical calendering unit, a series of three or more temperature-controlled, chrome-plated rolls that cool the sheet, set its final thickness via the nip gap, and define its surface texture. A traversing non-contact thickness gauge provides real-time profile data to an automatic die bolt system, ensuring gauge variation is minimized. Downstream, the sheet is edge-trimmed, and a high-precision winder produces a tight, uniform roll under controlled tension. Modern lines are fully integrated and automated, with centralized PLC control managing the entire process from resin intake to finished roll. The quality, consistency, and cost of the sheet produced by this line directly determine the success of all downstream thermoforming operations.
