A PP plastic sheet extruder is specifically engineered to process polypropylene resin, a material known for its excellent chemical resistance, microwaveability, and high heat deflection temperature, but also for its high shrinkage and sensitivity to cooling rates. The extruder must be designed to manage PP's semi-crystalline nature. Screw design is optimized for PP's specific melt flow characteristics, ensuring stable extrusion and preventing degradation. Due to PP's high shrinkage (1.5-2.5%), the sheet cooling and annealing process on the calendar roll stack is critically controlled. The temperature profile of the rolls must be meticulously managed to control crystallization, which directly affects the sheet's clarity, impact strength, and subsequent thermoforming behavior. Too rapid cooling can lead to high internal stress and warpage during forming. Modern PP extruders use three or more temperature-controlled polishing rolls, often with internal embossing capabilities to create a textured surface on one side for improved stacking or aesthetics. They are typically equipped with advanced thickness profiling systems, as consistent gauge is vital for producing uniform PP containers, such as microwaveable meal trays or durable food storage boxes, where wall thickness directly correlates with performance.
