A Plastic Sheet Extrusion Line is a complete, integrated system that transforms raw plastic resin into a finished, wound roll of sheet ready for the thermoformer. It is much more than just an extruder. The line starts with material handling: silos, dryers (for hygroscopic materials like PET), and gravimetric blenders for precise virgin/regrind/colorant ratios. The heart is the extruder (single or twin-screw), which melts and homogenizes the polymer. The melt is then pumped through a die—typically a coat-hanger or T-die—which distributes it evenly into a flat sheet. The sheet then enters the most critical section for quality: the polishing roll stack (calender). This series of three or more precision-heated and chromed rolls cools the sheet, sets its thickness (via gap adjustment), and determines its surface finish (glossy, matte, or textured). Downstream, the line includes a thickness gauge (using beta or infrared sensors) for continuous monitoring, edge-trimmers, and a high-torque winder to create a tension-controlled, uniform roll. Advanced lines feature automatic die lip adjustment that responds in real-time to the thickness profile feedback.
